IMP and CNBiogás Advance a National Agenda for the Utilization of Biogas and Biomethane in Mexico

The 6th National Biogas Technical Forum brought together leaders from the energy, government, academic, and industrial sectors to discuss the strategic role of biogas and biomethane in Mexico’s energy transition. Over the course of three days, experts shared insights on advances, challenges, and opportunities to promote sustainable solutions, technological innovation, and regional development.

The 6th National Biogas Technical Forum established itself as a platform for dialogue and collaboration among representatives from government, academia, industry, international organizations, and research centers, with the goal of advancing the use of biogas and biomethane as key drivers of Mexico’s energy transition and sustainable development.

Throughout the three-day event, participants addressed topics related to public policy, regulation, technological innovation, financing, circular economy, organic waste valorization, and the integration of biomethane into existing energy infrastructure. National and international experts agreed on the need to strengthen institutional coordination, promote investment, and accelerate the implementation of projects capable of transforming waste into energy while reducing emissions.

During the forum, IMP highlighted the importance of applied science, technological innovation, and cross-sector collaboration in addressing the country’s energy challenges. The Institute also showcased its expertise and capabilities in developing sustainable solutions that strengthen energy security and national competitiveness.

As part of the event, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between IMP and the Agencia de Energía del Estado de Campeche, aimed at promoting research initiatives, technological development, and sustainable energy solutions in the region.

The forum concluded with a call to transform the ideas and opportunities identified into tangible projects, reaffirming that biogas and biomethane represent strategic alternatives for advancing the circular economy, reducing emissions, and contributing to Mexico’s sustainable energy development.
