Basin Analysis and Petroleum Systems Modeling
We integrate geological, geophysical, and geochemical data to generate one-, two-, and three-dimensional numerical simulations of hydrocarbon generation, expulsion, migration, and accumulation processes over geological time in sedimentary basins.
We characterize the elements of petroleum systems: source, reservoir, and seal rocks, as well as structural and stratigraphic traps.
Capabilities
- Personnel with experience in Mexico’s Geological Provinces and knowledge of the country’s Petroleum Geology.
- Multidisciplinary teams including the necessary specialties: Biostratigraphy, Stratigraphy, Sedimentology, Structural Geology, Potential and Electromagnetic Methods, Geochemistry, and Organic Petrography.
- Petroleum Basin Information System of Mexico, with databases generated from various exploration projects.
- Integration of proprietary research and technological development methodologies and best practices.

Benefits for the client
- Reduction of risk and uncertainty in the evaluation of in-situ prospective resources and hydrocarbon reserve additions, consequently increasing the success rate of the exploration process.
- Technological support and incorporation of best practices through the use of cutting-edge technologies and methodologies for basin and petroleum system analysis.
- Understanding of the regional geotectonic framework, tectonic and thermal subsidence, sediment compaction, basin thermal history, definition of heat flow zones and crustal boundaries, as well as the evolution and maturity of kerogen associated with these factors and processes.
- Characterization of source rock, transformation rates, remaining potential, expulsion timing, maturity, and hydrocarbon generation windows.
- Identification of potential hydrocarbon resources and their geographical, stratigraphic, and temporal distribution within geological units during exploration processes.
